Report of the Visit by Surindra Rajabhat University Academics and Network Members
to Manipur University, Imphal City,
Manipur State, India, April 2-7, 2012
Description:
A visit of academics, doctoral students, and related network members of Surindra Rajabhat University (SRRU), Surin Province, Thailand to Manipur State hosted by Manipur University, Manipur, India. These 12-16 member delegates have intention to gather first hand experiences of Manipur State and Manipur University in particular. The continuous dialogue and plans will be toward the possibility of staff and student exchange programs in related fields – such as areas with demands in Thailand, (1) Teaching Thai Language – As Communicative Tools, at Manipur University, Imphal City (2) Teaching English as a Second language (To Thai academic staff, graduate students, undergraduate students as well as secondary school students in Thailand), and (3) a BS or BA International program in Hospitality Management (Using English as the medium of Instruction with students of 25-40 percent from Non-Thais).
Objectives:
1. To provide experiences for staff members and graduate students from Surin Rajabhat University, in the world beyond their community and country, using Manipur State and Manipur University as the case of study.
2. To utilize know-how in business and academic program development by using regional & international collaborations, particularly promoting students and staff exchange.
3. To strengthen the collaboration between Surindra Rajabhat University, Surin, Thailand, and Manipur University, India
Result-Based Purposes:
3 business plans will be drafted with consultation from both collaborating universities – Manipur University, State of Manipur of India and Surindra Rajabhat University, Surin Province, Thailand. The assigned timeframe is 3-6 months to finish the proposals.

Day I: April 2, 2012
10:00 hrs The SRRU bus leaves the Surindra Rajabhat University (SRRU) in Muang Surin to Suvarnabhumi Airport
17:00 hrs Check in at Jet Airline Counter, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand

21:25 hrs Arrives at Kolkata Airport, India to be welcomed by R. K. Sherjit, representative from Manipur University, and check in at Astoria Hotel, Kolkata.

Introductory discussion with the Vice Chancellor and administrative team, deans and selected department heads of the University, focusing on the future collaboration between the 2 universities and related networks.
The collaboration of 2 universities, Manipur University, India and Surindra Rajabhat University of Thailand have great potential in various areas. But in the beginning we will focus at the 3 selected projects:
Project I: Thai Language Teaching as a Second Language in Manipur University, with a visiting teaching staff from Surindra Rajabhat University. Dr. Vasanchai Kakkaew will serve as the coordinator on SRRU part.

Project II: Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) in Thailand & Manipur. In Thailand, SRRU wants to improve English as communicative skill for faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students, in line with ASEAN Vision 2015.
