ปารีส (Paris) เป็นเมืองหลวง (Capital city)และเมืองใหญ่สุดของประเทศฝรั่งเศส (France) ตั้งอยู่บนฝั่งแม่น้ำ Seine ในทางตอนเหนือของฝรั่งเศส จัดเป็นศูนย์กลางของเขต Île-de France region หรือเรียกว่าเขต Paris Region เขตการบริหารเมืองของปารีสโดยส่วนใหญ่ไม่ได้เปลี่ยนแปลงนับแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1860 เป็นต้นมา โดยมีประชากรอย่างเป็นทางการ 2,193,031 คน (January 2007) หากนับเขตชุมชนเมืองที่ประชากรหนาแน่นติดกัน จะมีพลเมือง 11,836,970 คน จัดเป็นเมืองที่มีประชากรมากที่สุดในยุโรป
ปารีสในปัจจุบันมีอายุกว่าสองพันปี เป็นศูนย์กลางธุรกิจและวัฒนธรรมของโลก เป็นแหล่งมีอิทธิพลทางการศึกษา บันเทิง การสื่อสาร แฟชั่น วิทยาศาสตร์ และศิลปะ จนทำให้ได้รับการยอมรับว่าเป็น “เมืองของโลก” (Global cities) ที่มีความสำคัญแห่งหนึ่ง
